A single-storey building with a blue façade and a tiled roof, glimpsed through dense trees, a slope covered in dry grass extending before it. Dark and light greens are layered in broad, decisive brushstrokes, while the sky filters through the trees in flecks of white and blue.
About the Artist
Hamit Görele (1900–1980) belongs to the first generation of painters of the Republic. He worked with İbrahim Çallı and Hikmet Onat at the Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1928; the European painting competition he won in the same year took him to Paris, where he worked for four years in the studio of André Lhote. On his return he took part in the exhibitions of the Independent Painters and Sculptors Union and assumed its presidency; in 1978 he was one of two painters awarded the State Certificate of Honour. His works are held in the collection of the Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture.
