The Nostalgic Tram

2026

Medium
Oil on canvas
Dimensions
60 × 80 cm
Viewing
At the showroom — by appointment

Late afternoon on İstiklal Caddesi: the red nostalgic tram, advancing along the curve of its line with its "Taksim – Tünel" board and the number 115, stands at the centre of the composition. To the left are historic façades with lit shop windows, to the right figures walking out of the crowd, and in the foreground a woman in a black dress and straw hat. Long evening shadows, together with the texture of the wet paving, give the avenue its depth. The artist's signature and the date 2026 appear at the lower right.

About the Artist

Sema Peyman (b. 1960, Istanbul) began painting with her training in the studio of the painter Faruk Cimok, and opened her first solo exhibition in Istanbul in 1993. An artistic life that began in the impressionist manner has in recent years extended to hyperrealist work and the dry pastel technique. Her oil paintings of the historic settings of Beyoğlu and the everyday scenes of Istanbul appear in gallery and auction catalogues, and her works are held in collections in Turkey and abroad.
